Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
